Louis D. Bell, M.D., F.A.C.G
Dr. Louis D. Bell is the current Medical Director of the Okatie-Bluffton Outpatient Center as well as having his own practice at Coastal Gastroenterology. He is board certified in Gastroenterology and has 29 years of experience. He performs about 1500 procedures yearly and has achieved “Master” status, having performed over 25,000 colonoscopies.
Dr. Bell is a graduate of Temple University and the Temple University Medical School. His fellowship training was in gastroenterology at the Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, PA.
Dr. Bell has earned a reputation for providing quality and compassionate care in the Low Country. He believes that every patient should always be embraced with personal kindness, respect, attention, and understanding. Dr. Bell strives to provide care in a timely fashion, from the first contact through follow-up. By listening to the patient's needs and concerns, Dr. Bell communicates in an understandable manner to determine the need for treatment and treatment progress.
Dr. Bell also enjoys teaching as he has held faculty appointments as a Clinical Instructor, Department of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University and a Clinical Associate in Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and continues to present lectures to the community of the Low Country.
Dr. Bell has served on the Board of the Hilton Head Medical Center. He is currently on the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Gastroenterology Association serving as its Treasurer. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Dr. Bell has also been “giving back” to the community through his involvement in Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) on Hilton Head Island. VIM has been providing free medical care on Hilton Head Island for the past 20 years, ensuring that everyone in our community has access to compassionate, quality-driven health care.
Maria L. Bell, RN, MBA
Maria Bell is a senior management consultant with 20 years of experience in the health-care industry and small businesses. Her expertise includes strategic business planning and expansion; product packaging and introduction; marketing planning and execution, managed care contracting, business management and “start-up” operations for a broad scope of health-care providers.
She has held leadership positions in strategic planning and marketing and has served on the Board of the Golden Cradle Adoption Agency, Co-Chair of Special Projects with The Palmetto Hall Plantation, the Finance Committee of the Literacy Volunteers of the Low Country, and Vice President of the SCHEMA/MGMA.
Maria received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at West Chester University, a Master of Business Administration in Health Administration and Medical Services from Widener University, and a Master of Business Administration in Technology and E-Commerce from West Chester University and is a Graduate of the Hilton Head/ Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.
Monique Albert, CMA
Monique began her career as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with Coastal Gastroenterology in November 2012. A Savannah native, she graduated at the top of her class from the Medical Assistant program at Savannah Technical College. She has a particular interest in the field of gastroenterology as well as geriatric care. Along with her CMA, she is BLS- and CPR-certified, and is a member of the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants).
Monique is a primary person that you will interact with during an initial office visit. She will take your vital signs and your picture, gather your medical history, answer any questions or concerns that you may have about medical procedures, and schedule followup appointments. She also enters and updates patient information in their electronic medical records and handles referrals from other doctors.
Monique sets up and manages the “PillCam” procedure in which a tiny, pill-sized camera is swallowed by the patient and then travels through their GI tract taking pictures and transmitting the images to a wearable receiving device for later review by Dr. Bell. She also assists Dr. Bell during procedures in the office.
For “direct access” patients who have previously had procedures done by Dr. Bell, Monique reviews their medical history, goes over preparations for upcoming procedures, and handles the routine screenings prior to colonoscopies as well as calling in prescriptions as needed.
Vicky began her career as a Referral Specialist with Coastal Gastroenterology in February 2017 and transitioned into the role as Medical Office Coordinator. She is a Beaufort native and moved to Bluffton 20 years ago. She is registered pharmacy technician through Labor Licensing and Regulation (LLR) for the state of South Carolina. She has a strong background in the medical field rather it be dental, pharmacy, or specialty care practices. Vicky is CPR certified.
She's proud to say she's 1 out of 72 other coworkers that were chosen from 1400 candidates to serve as a Service Excellence Advisor (SEA). With that award she had to engage in many hours of customer service classroom literature along with role playing. Once certification was awarded she instructed many classes along with power point presentation of how to give good customer service. After 25 years as a clerical specialist she has come to realize that this is her passion.
Vicky serves as the liaison between the patient, medical support staff and the physician; as well as ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other patient privacy regulations.
Theresa (Terri) began her career as a Referral Specialist with Coastal Gastroenterology in April 2018. She is a Bronx New York City native, born and raised. Terri recently moved to Bluffton, SC in 2018.
She has a strong background in the medical field for over six years (6) as a Patient Representative at the Hudson River Healthcare in New York. Terri has worked with a variety of medical, surgical, and behavior health practices. Also, Terri obtained a certificate of award for medical billing and coding. Terri is CPR certified.
Terri schedules medical referrals and determines the best approach for scheduling both urgent and non-urgnet patients, according to one's medical needs. Terri is the liaison between the patient, medical support staff and the physician; along with ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other patient privacy regulations.
Stacey Ahern, as the Medical Office Support, manages the scheduling of periodic procedures and outstanding financial matters. Stacey is a native of New York and New Jersey and had achieved managerial roles in the aerospace and power industries. She moved to Bluffton in 2005 and worked for a local medical billing company. Stacey’s role is to contact patients to remind them it is time to schedule follow up procedures. Personally knowing the importance of continued follow up medical care, being a cancer survivor, Stacey is successful in facilitating patients to do so as well. Stacey is CPR certified. Additionally, Stacey assists patients with overdue balances. Knowing personally what it is like to have medical bills add up, she works with patients to structure payment plans so patients can pay their balances in a non-stressful way. You will enjoy talking with Stacey, as she often shares a laugh over mutual experiences of living in York and New Jersey or maybe reminiscing about a good meatball recipe or where to find a real bagel in Bluffton.
